Softball Teams Host Districts This Week

Chelsea Softball, Dexter Softball, Saline Softball, Softball

Softball fans will not have to travel far for district action this week with Chelsea and Dexter hosting the D2 and D1 districts this weekend.

Division 1 (At Dexter)

Saline (29-6-1) will take part in the Dexter district and will face Ann Arbor Pioneer (14-18) at 10:00 Saturday morning. The Hornets took easily two from Pioneer during the regular season.

Dexter (19-12) will take on Ann Arbor Skyline (4-15 in SEC Red) at 12:30 PM. The Dreadnaughts took two from the Eagles in league play.

Dexter and Saline should pick up semifinal wins and get a rematch in the district finals at 2:30 Saturday. The teams split their games in league play, just one of two losses for the Hornets in the Red.

Dexter split with the Hornets during the regular season behind a dominating pitching performance by Audrey Gauthier. The Dreadnaughts have been slumping of late, going 4-6 in their last 10. Saline has won eight of its last 10 with the losses coming to D3 second-ranked Grass Lake and D3 2023 state runner-up Ottawa Lake Whiteford in a walk-off.

Prediction- Saline over Dexter

Division 2 (At Chelsea)

The district will likely come from the winner of the pre-district game Tuesday when Chelsea (21-10) takes on Pinckney (22-13). The Bulldogs have had Pinckney’s number in the past, but the Pirates gained some confidence after splitting a doubleheader with Chelsea May 13. Both the Bulldogs and Pirates loaded their non-conference schedules with tough competition. The winner will face Livonia Clarenceville (11-16) Saturday at 10:00 AM.

The other semifinal features Father Gabriel Richard (0-17) and Redford Union(NA)

This district is one of the situations where the two best teams are facing off in the first game and unfortunately one will not even get to play on Saturday. Is the confidence the Pirates gained in earning a split with the Bulldogs enough to end the Bulldogs streak of four straight district titles? While this isn’t the same Chelsea softball team of recent years, it is still a strong team.
