The Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Ugly Dog Distillery, is inviting outdoor enthusiasts to take part in the 2025 Chelsea Trail Challenge. Running from February 1 to November 30, the challenge encourages participants to explore various trails in and around Chelsea through a variety of activities, including kayaking, paddleboarding, running, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, skiing, swimming, and horseback riding where permitted.
Participants are asked to document their trail visits by taking a photo on the trail and submitting it through the official challenge form. Photos must clearly show the participant on the trail; screenshots from tracking apps such as Garmin will not be accepted. Each unique trail submission counts as an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing, which features three prizes:
- A $500 gift card to Chelsea Outfitters
- One adult stand-up paddleboard
- A Trek Marlin 5 cross-country mountain bike, provided by Aberdeen Bike
In addition to the grand prizes, those who complete at least 10 trails can pick up a free hiking utility bracelet or an official Chelsea Trail Challenge sticker at the Chelsea Visitor Center. Further incentives include collectible hiking pins awarded for every 10 trails completed, up to 50 trails.
The challenge also recognizes lakes as aquatic trails for kayaking, swimming, and paddleboarding, broadening the options for participants. A Recreation Passport is required for entry into the Waterloo and Pinckney Recreation Areas.
New for 2025, the Bark Ranger Program will launch on Earth Day, April 22, encouraging dog owners to explore Chelsea’s trails with their pets while promoting responsible outdoor recreation. Additional details on this program will be released closer to its launch.
