Chelsea City Council approved an approximately $400,000 agreement with IMEG for design and engineering services for a water treatment plant expansion at the June 8 meeting. According to Water Superintendent John Powell, an expansion for the plant has been on the city’s Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for some time.
“When I came to council in February, my intention was to educate the new council members regarding the need for water plan expansion,” Powell said. “The water capacity issue has been in discussion for the last five years, which started with a possible interconnection with Sylvan Township. The water treatment plant expansion has been part of the CIP for the last two years.”
The city sent out a request for quotation in April of this year and received three bids. According to Mayor Kate Henson, not only did IMEG have the least expensive quote, but the city has also worked with the company before.
The council approved the agreement unanimously.
