The First Congregational Church (FCC) Diaper Bank, located at 121 E. Middle Street in Chelsea, continues to grow thanks to generous community support, providing essential diapering products to families throughout Washtenaw County and neighboring communities since its founding in 2022.
Open two days each week, the Diaper Bank has expanded its reach through partnerships with five local food pantries. These collaborations bring essential diapering products closer to families while allowing clients to access multiple resources in one convenient location.
“Community support is what makes this mission possible,” said Sandy Andresen and Laura Gordon, co-coordinators of the FCC Diaper Bank. “We are deeply grateful for every donation, grant, and act of generosity that helps us provide essential diapering products to local families.”
Support from individuals, community organizations, service clubs, and grant providers has sustained the Diaper Bank’s mission from the beginning. The spring of 2026 has been especially encouraging, with several significant gifts helping ensure that families continue to receive the supplies they need.
The Chelsea Homemakers selected the FCC Diaper Bank as a beneficiary of its spring fundraiser, resulting in a significant donation of diaper products and a $2,300 monetary gift.
The Diaper Bank also received Sponsorship Grants totaling $1,000 through the Five Healthy Towns wellness coalitions in Chelsea and Stockbridge, with each community awarding a $500 grant to support ongoing operations.
In addition, Chelsea Hospital awarded the FCC Diaper Bank a $15,000 Community Benefit Grant designated for the purchase of diapering products for families experiencing financial hardship. The funding will help ensure that essential supplies remain available to families throughout the Five Healthy Towns communities of Chelsea, Dexter, Grass Lake, Manchester, and Stockbridge.
Most recently, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club presented the Diaper Bank with a $500 donation along with additional diapering products.
All donations and grant funds received by the FCC Diaper Bank are used exclusively for the purchase of diapering products for families in need.
