Milan residents may want to start cleaning out their garages.
The Milan Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing the city’s first communitywide garage sale Aug. 20-22, giving residents a free way to register their sales and helping shoppers plan their routes.
The Milan Citywide Garage Sale will use a central website, milangaragesale.com, where residents can list their sale address and appear as a pin on a public map.
Residents can also tag what they are selling, such as children’s clothes, furniture, tools and household items. Shoppers will be able to filter the map before heading out, making it easier to find the kinds of sales they want to visit.
According to information shared by Dave Baldwin, a chamber board member, the idea started the way many good local ideas do: with a neighbor asking a simple question in a community Facebook group. Would Milan ever host a citywide garage sale?

The idea quickly gained interest, and the chamber board voted to make it happen. Organizers hope the sale becomes an annual tradition.
The inaugural event is presented by Jodie Franklin Realty. Supporting sponsors include MoldPro, Peppers Mexican Grill, PlusCode Website Design and Top Tier Realty.
“The support from local businesses right out of the gate has been really encouraging,” Baldwin said.
Registration is free for Milan residents. More information is available at milangaragesale.com.
