The Dairy Barn in Milan was recently recognized by the state of Michigan in honor of its 70th anniversary.
Owner Tom Kujawa, who is in his 12th season operating the business, accepted a commemorative certificate presented by U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell. He hopes to put the certificate on display soon.
To mark the anniversary, historic photos cover the shop’s windows. Kujawa said the Dairy Barn has served as a gathering place for generations of Milan residents, with many adults sharing memories of visiting the shop as children after Little League games or other community activities. Kujawa also noted many local students worked their first jobs at the Dairy Barn.
“I love it,” Kujawa said. “I wouldn’t want to do anything else….It’s all the kids. It’s all the parents, everyone coming here. I get to enjoy handing out ice cream and get smiles back.”
