Seven Straight District Titles for Chelsea Softball

The Chelsea softball team continued to dominate locally on the diamond with the Bulldogs claiming their seventh straight district title Saturday.

The Bulldogs used a big five run second inning to take a 6-1 lead over Pinckney and held off a late Pirates rally for a 9-5 win to claim the title.

Kaydee Absher had the big blow of the third with a three-run blast to left for a 6-1 lead.

Ella Root added two hits with a triple and run scored, while Lily McCalla and Audrey McCarley each had a hit and rbi.

Ashley Sherwood had a hit and to runs scored, and Peyton Myers and Mia Kuboushek a hit and run scored each.

McCalla struck out seven for the win in the circle for the Bulldogs.

Chelsea reached the finals with an 17-0 three inning win over Canton Prep.

The Bulldogs scored 11 in the first and six in the second to cruise to the semifinal win.

Brooke Barlage led the offense with three hits, including two doubles and four rbi.

Kuboushek added two hits and two rbi, Absher two hits and three rbi, Sherwood two hits and two rbi, Root, McCalla, and Myers a hit and rbi each, and Chloe Bagbey one hit for Chelsea.

Sasha Henriksen allowed just one hit and struck out seven in the circle.

Chelsea took down Fowlerville 4-1 in the district quarterfinal Tuesday.

McCalla shut down the Gladiators with 13 strikeouts and just 3 hits.

Sherwood led the offense with two hits and a rbi, while Root had a double and rbi. Barlage added a hit and run scored, McCalla and Kuboushek one hit each.

Chelsea improved to 23-12-1 on the season and will compete in the D2 regional at Fowlerville Saturday at 10:00 AM when the Bulldogs will face D2 fifth-ranked Carleton Airport at 10:00 AM. The winner will face with Milan or Parma Western at 2:00 for the regional championship.
