Residents will have two opportunities to learn more about the planned Dexter Five Points roundabout and provide feedback before construction begins.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) announced it will host both a virtual and an in-person public information meeting for the proposed roundabout at the intersection of Huron River Drive, Joy Road and Mast Road in Webster Township.

“This roundabout will address a key traffic bottleneck while supporting our long-term goals for safer, more sustainable transportation,” WCRC Project Manager Kevin Dubnicki said when the project was announced. “By reducing stop-and-go conditions and improving flow, we expect not only fewer delays but also meaningful reductions in vehicle emissions at this intersection.”

The virtual meeting will be held Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. via Zoom. A recording will be posted on the project’s webpage afterward.

The in-person meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. at the Dexter District Library, 3255 Alpine St., Dexter.

The Zoom meeting can be accessed at https://bit.ly/wcrcprojectmeeting or by phone at (929) 205-6099 using Meeting ID: 879 2332 8754.

The meetings are intended to provide project updates, answer questions and gather public input on the proposed intersection improvements.

The project calls for construction of a single-lane, peanut-shaped roundabout at the Five Points intersection, where Huron River Drive, Joy Road and Mast Road converge. WCRC secured a $1.12 million federal Carbon Reduction Program grant to help fund the project.

According to the road commission, the intersection has been identified as a high-priority location because of recurring traffic congestion during peak travel periods. The roundabout is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce delays, lower vehicle emissions by minimizing stop-and-go traffic, and improve safety for motorists and other road users.

Construction is currently anticipated to begin in 2027. During construction, the project will be completed in phases, with closures first affecting the Huron River Drive (east)/Mast Road intersection, followed by the Huron River Drive (west)/Mast Road/Joy Road intersection. Detours will be posted throughout construction.
