Nancy Carol Tietz, age 93, passed away on July 6, 2026 in Chelsea, Michigan.
She was born on January 2, 1933, in Magnolia, Arkansas, the daughter of Philip and Mary Turk, and grew up in Kansas City.
Nancy earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology from the University of Kansas, where she met her future husband, Raymond, who was studying chemistry as a graduate student. After they married, they made their home in Wilmington, Delaware.
Nancy worked as a laboratory technician until the birth of her first son, Michael. She then dedicated herself to raising her family as a homemaker. Later, she worked at Pomeroy’s Department Store and spent several years as a bank teller. Ultimately her most beloved titles were “Mom”, “Grandmom”, and “Great-Grandmom”.
Nancy enjoyed many hobbies, including sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening and playing bridge. All of her family members (and many friends) were blessed to receive one of her handmade crocheted blankets.
Nancy also loved to travel both near and far, with family and close friends. She visited Costa Rica, Croatia, Germany, Ireland, Israel, and Italy. She also traveled extensively through this country. One of her proudest accomplishments was planning a five-week family road trip to national parks across the country long before the internet made travel planning easy.
She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish in Dexter over 20 years, where she attended daily mass and developed a strong network of close friends.
Nancy is survived by her children, Matthew (Carrie) Tietz, Katherine (Robert) Phillips, Lisa (Chad) Moore, and Amy (James) Cooke; her grandchildren, Kelly (Nate), Kevin (Maggie), David, Molly (Thomas), Cole, Jett, and Andrew; and her great-grandchildren, Lydia, Eliza, Caleb, and Adrian.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond; her infant son, Michael; and her siblings, Philip and Virginia.
On Saturday, July 11, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Country Church, 6805 Mast Rd, Dexter, MI 48130 visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30am, with Funeral Mass starting at 10:30am.
