Thea Fay Bascue, age 73, of Chelsea, Michigan, passed away on June 16, 2026, at Linden Square Senior Care in Saline.
Fay was born on August 20, 1952, in Covington, Kentucky, the daughter of Theo and Audrey (Duncan) Bascue. She was raised in northern Kentucky and graduated from Lloyd Memorial High School in Erlanger, KY. In her early twenties, she moved to Michigan. A talented artist, Fay made her living through her creative work for many years. She was especially skilled in pottery and participated in the Ann Arbor Art Fair. Later in her career, she went back to school and was proud to have earned her Bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. At the end of her career, she worked as an occupational therapist, combining her creativity with a desire to help others.
Fay was devoted to her family and valued the many friendships she made throughout her life. She and Nancy Shanley built a family together, adopting their son, Frank, and later their daughter, Selena. Some of Fay’s happiest moments were spent enjoying her time in nature with her family and her many beloved dogs. She was a loving mother and friend, and she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Fay is survived by her partner, Nancy Shanley; son, Frank (MaKenna Krieger) Shanley of Lansing; and daughter, Selena Shanley of Lincoln Park; her beloved sister, Kay (Tim) Bernert of Elsmere, KY; as well as many nieces and nephews.
