Residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on the Chelsea District Library’s proposed $2.85 million budget for 2027, including the property tax millage that would fund library operations.
The Chelsea District Library (CDL) will hold a public hearing on its proposed budget during the Library Board meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at approximately 6:45 p.m.
The hearing will take place at CDL, 221 S. Main St., Chelsea, and will give residents an opportunity to comment on the proposed budget and the property tax millage rate that would support library operations.
The proposed 2027 budget totals $2,854,139.
Personnel expenses account for the largest portion of the budget at $1,643,114. Other major expenditures include collection expenses of $279,200, maintenance service contracts of $196,551, programming expenses of $161,400, promotional materials of $92,750, utilities of $85,750, and professional services of $80,040.
The proposed budget also includes:

- Volunteer services: $3,000
- Board expenses: $3,900
- Automation services: $58,800
- Insurance: $27,672
- Equipment: $34,550
- Staff development and travel: $20,662
- Capital expenses: $61,000
- Capital reserve: $45,000
- Debt principal (GASB 87): $7,636
- Debt interest (GASB 87): $664
The property tax millage rate proposed to support the operating budget is 1.8750 mills.
Copies of the proposed 2027 budget are available for public inspection at CDL prior to the hearing.
Residents are invited to attend the public hearing and provide comments before the Library Board considers adoption of the budget.
