A multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Huron River Drive and North Territorial Road left two people in serious condition on July 11.
Dexter Area Fire Department (DAFD) Fire Chief Doug Armstrong said on that Saturday, at approximately 11 a.m., DAFD was dispatched to a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Huron River Drive and North Territorial Road.
“Based on the initial investigation, an SUV traveling on Huron River Drive attempted to cross North Territorial Road and was struck by a westbound vehicle,” Armstrong said. “The impact pushed the vehicle into a stationary DTE truck and caused the vehicle to roll over.”
Armstrong said firefighters “arrived quickly and utilized hydraulic rescue tools to extricate two occupants from the overturned SUV.”
Both occupants were transported to University of Michigan Health in serious condition, Armstrong said.
The five occupants of the DTE vehicle and the westbound vehicle declined medical treatment at the scene.

With the temporary detour from downtown Dexter, the intersection has seen a noticeable increase in traffic recently, which has led to some in the community expressing concerns about the potential accidents that might happen. The Sun Times News asked Armstrong about this.
He said the intersection has experienced increased traffic volumes during the ongoing road construction projects in the area, so motorists “should anticipate delays, remain patient, follow posted detour routes whenever possible, and use additional caution when entering or crossing North Territorial Road.”
