Scio Township’s Skip Davis is Honored for his Service

For his decades of service, Skip Davis was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement award. From the Vietnam War when he was a 19-year-old serving in the infantry to his present day role as the Scio Township Fire Investigator, Davis has made it his life’s mission to faithfully serve.

His service was recently recognized by 1-800-BOARDUP, which is part of the BELFOR group and is an organization of first responders that provides emergency restoration and cleanup services for fire damage, water damage and storm damage.

The Sun Times News asked him about this.

“I was totally surprised by the honor, zero idea it was coming,” Davis said.

This award was for 57 years of service to the community and country.

It started when he was 19 in the U.S. Army serving a year in Vietnam and a total of nine years in the Armed Services, including three of those in the U.S. Marines. It was in Vietnam that Davis, who grew up in Detroit and went to Osborn High School on the eastside, began thinking about becoming a police officer.

From 1971-74, Davis was with the Detroit Police Department before moving onto the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department from ’74 to 1998. With Washtenaw, he served as a corporal, SWAT team member/instructor, detective and Deputy Sheriff. He also spent time with the Ypsilanti and Milan police departments as well as with the Huron Clinton MetroParks Police Department.

And during all that he found time for 33 seasons of coaching at the Junior High and High School levels, both as an assistant and head coach.

In the fire service, he served with the Pittsfield Township Fire and Scio, where he eventually became the fire investigator. He’s been in that role since 2018.

Over 44 years in law enforcement and 57 overall, Davis has been dedicated and committed.
