| INFORMATION: While on routine patrol an officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of S. Main Street for the report of a retail fraud in progress. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant, who stated that he had observed the suspect, identified as a 69-year-old Dexter woman, enter the business and, a short time later, place items into her purse. The complainant stated that he watched the suspect proceed through the business and eventually to the checkout aisles, where she paid for all the merchandise in the cart but failed to take the items out of her purse and pay for those items. The complainant stated that as the suspect passed all other points of sale, he stopped her at the exit. After speaking with the complainant and the suspect, the officer placed the suspect under arrest and transported her to the Chelsea Police Department, where she was processed and released. The case remains open pending warrant submission and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if charges would be authorized. | ||
Incident #: 26-3774 Location: 600 block of E. Industrial Drive Date: July 17, 2026 Time: 2:51 pm INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, an officer was dispatched to the 600 block of E. Industrial Drive for the report of a failure to return a rental vehicle complaint. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant, who stated that the company she represents had rented a vehicle to the suspect, identified as a 50-year-old Norton Shores woman, on June 9, 2026, and the suspect reportedly needed the vehicle for one (1) day. The complainant stated that there had been multiple attempts by phone and certified mail to try and make contact with the suspect and all had been unsuccessful. The vehicle was entered as being stolen and the case remains open pending further investigation and warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if charges would be authorized.
Incident #: 26-3791 Location: 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive Date: July 19, 2026 Time: 3:29 am INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, officers responded to the 1600 block of Commerce Park Drive for a welfare check request. The caller stated that he had recently been involved in an altercation with a female acquaintance and she had been intoxicated. Officers responded to the area and made contact with the complainant, who stated that he had been with the female subject, and throughout the course of the evening, the female subject had been consuming alcohol heavily and at some point became belligerent. The complainant stated that he attempted to call the police because the situation had become unmanageable and at that point the female subject slapped the phone out of his hands, struck him with a closed fist in the face, and began threatening to assault the complainant further. The suspect was identified as a 64-year-old Spring Arbor woman, and she had reportedly left the area on foot. Officers made multiple attempts to locate the suspect with no success. The case remains open pending additional follow-up, warrant submission, and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if charges would be authorized.
Incident #: 26-3809 Location: 1600 block of S. Main Street Date: July 19, 2026 Time: 9:10 pm INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, officers responded to the area of the 1600 block of S. Main Street for the report of a reckless driver who had been driving in a nearby neighborhood. Upon arrival, the officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the reckless driver and initiated a traffic stop. The officer approached the vehicle, made contact with the driver, and immediately noted that the driver had red, bloodshot eyes; the driver’s eyelids appeared half-closed, and his eyes were watery. The officer asked the driver about his driving behavior in the nearby neighborhood, and the driver stated that he was just driving around. The officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and perform some standard field sobriety tests and at the conclusion of those tests it was determined that there was enough probable cause to place the suspect under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect, identified as a 20-year-old Ypsilanti man, was placed under arrest and transported to the Chelsea Police Department, where he was processed and then transported to the Washtenaw County Jail. The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab to determine the level of intoxication and warrant submission and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
