Date: July 10, 2026Time: 8:31 pm
INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, an officer stopped a vehicle in the 1600 block of S. Main Street for a routine traffic violation. The officer requested proof of registration and insurance, and the driver informed the officer that he did not have either and that the plate that was affixed to the vehicle was not a legitimate license plate and “was just for show”. After further investigation, the officer asked the driver to step out of the vehicle and informed the driver that the vehicle was going to be impounded due to the fact that it could not currently be operated on the road legally. The officer proceeded to complete an inventory search of the vehicle and in the process located a large amount of counterfeit US Currency, suspected prescription medication not belonging to the occupant of the vehicle, and a white crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine. The suspect, identified as a 37-year-old Napoleon man, was placed under arrest. The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab to determine what the white crystal powder contained.

Incident #: 26-3482Location: 1600 block of S. Main Street
Date: July 6, 2026Time: 7:30 pm
INFORMATION: While on routine patrol an officer was dispatched to the area of the 1600 block of S. Main Street for the initial report of a reckless driver complaint that originated a short distance away in the Sylvan Crossing Community. The caller stated that he had witnessed a vehicle driving in a reckless manner and the driver had nearly struck a child. The caller went on to report that when confronted by the caller the driver had brandished a firearm. Upon arrival to the area the officer located the reported reckless driver and because a firearm was reportedly used, the driver was detained, no firearm was found by the officer. The officer interviewed the caller, identified as a 25-year-old Chelsea man, about what had been reported to dispatch. When questioned, the caller admitted that he had reported that a firearm had been used, but that in fact it was not true. During the course of the investigation officers also were able to make contact with the child and her parent, who the caller reported had nearly been struck. It was confirmed by the child’s statement that she had not nearly been struck. The child stated that she had been traveling on her bicycle towards an intersection and as she approached the intersection, the vehicle in question approached and the child pulled to the side of the road and the driver went around her and continued without further incident. The case was turned over to the investigator for submission and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if any potential criminal charges would be authorized, related to the false reports made by the caller.
