Incident #: 26-2937Location: 600 block of S. Main Street
Date: June 17, 2026Time: 12:25 pm
INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, an officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Chelsea Police Department for the report of a fraud complaint. The officer met with the complainant, who stated that she had recently (June 4, 2026) purchased three prepaid gift cards to be used to purchase fuel. The complainant stated that it had recently been discovered that all three of the gift cards had balances emptied to $0 and were used on the same day in Eastpointe, Michigan. The complainant stated that the physical gas cards were still in her possession and access was limited to only a select few people. The complainant stated that she does not believe that anyone with access to the cards used them. The case remains open pending review by the investigator and additional investigation.

Date: June 19, 2026Time: 8:33 am
INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, officers responded to the 1100 block of Old Manchester Road after receiving a walk-in complaint regarding the report of illegal dumping. Upon arrival, the officer observed multiple areas of discarded trash and recycling materials left throughout the parking lot. The officer gathered and collected the trash and recycling materials and bagged the items up and properly disposed of the items. While cleanup efforts were underway, suspect information was found on some of the discarded items. The suspects were identified as a 50-year-old Manchester woman (Identified as suspect #1) and a 73-year-old Stockbridge woman (Identified as suspect #2). Telephone contact was made with suspect #1 and she denied any knowledge of how the items may have been dumped in Chelsea. Telephone contact was attempted with suspect #2, and a phone message was left, asking suspect #2 to call the investigating officer back. The case remains open pending further investigation and possible warrant submission and review by the Prosecutor’s Office.

Date: June 21, 2026Time: 1:34 pm
INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, an officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of S. Main Street for the report of counterfeit currency. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant, who stated that she had just been informed about a counterfeit bill that had been passed at the retail establishment by a customer on June 19, 2026. The officer interviewed the complainant and watched video surveillance footage of the suspect presenting the suspected counterfeit bill and paying for a gift card. The officer was able to identify the suspect from the video footage as a 64-year-old Chelsea man. As the officers exited the location, they observed the suspect entering the business. Officers approached the suspect and asked to speak with him about the events that had taken place on June 19th and the suspect complied. After the officers spoke with the suspect, it was determined that probable cause existed to place the suspect under arrest. The suspect was arrested and processed at the Chelsea Police Department and transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he would be held pending warrant review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
