The Dexter Lions Club and Dexter Creamery have been teaming up this summer to bring free ice cream to the Music in the Park events.
Over the past couple of months, the Dexter Lions has served free ice cream from the Creamery on Friday nights during the Summer Concert Series. They will be doing it one more time on Aug. 30. Music in the Park is presented by the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce.
In making this partnership with the Creamery, the Lions said they were looking for a community service project “where we could give back to the community and support local businesses.”
Creamery owner Chris Jones said, “The Lions approached us a couple years ago about offering ice cream during the Summer Concert Series, they have always been willing and expecting to pay, however since the Lions is an organization that we have always supported financially we have always donated the ice cream. It’s an event that clearly the volunteers and recipients thoroughly enjoy participating in and we are proud to play our role.”
The Creamery is also donating all of the ice cream for the Dexter District Library’s ice cream social on July 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Jones said ice cream socials are a great way for these groups to connect face to face with the community and hear a heartfelt thank you for their service.
The Music in the park concerts are from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. every Friday in Monument Park, in downtown Dexter. The concert on Aug. 30 will feature the music of Salmagundi. To see the full list of concerts go to https://www.dexterchamber.org/.
